Big 6 Energy Cartel.

I was hoping to bring you "Tidings of Comfort and Joy" in the run up to the festive season, but instead it's "Corporate Greed" grabbing the headlines.

When the Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government privatised the Gas and Electricity industries in the late 1980's and early 1990's, she did so under the philosophy that privatisation would bring new vigour and competition to state run industries. Healthy corporate competition would bring "better services and lower prices."

If only that was true...

Those of us shopping on-line, or in the High Street this Christmas might find it difficult to recognise the Big 6's idea of competition. We have ASDA one of the biggest supermarkets in the world offering it's customers cash back vouchers if their products aren't 10% below their competitors. Crazy idea or great marketing? I don't see any sign of ASDA going out of business offering this deal.

Contrast the competition offered by the Big 6 energy suppliers...

These are multi Billion companies, yet their costs and tariffs match each other by percentage points.
This isn't competition. It's what greedy companies do when they have a product which everyone uses and they don't need to compete. They get together in some cosy smoke filled hotel room and carve up the market to their best advantage.

"You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours" and we'll all get rich.

Experts are predicting that 300,000 EXTRA homes will be pushed into fuel poverty this Christmas. I hope the Directors and shareholders enjoy their Christmas dinner and the enhanced profit dividends.

Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim in Charles Dickens "Christmas Carol" might (unfortunately) recognise Britain in the 21st century.

"God bless usevery one!"
