HELP!!! How was your October 2013 solar output?

I'm a worried man...

Some of you may have read my previous piece detailing the removal of my PV panels to enable me to repair my roof.Link
I'm now concerned that the panels may have been affected by the move and I need YOUR help.

We've spent half of October sunning our self in Portugal, so I'm unsure what the weather was like in the UK. I know there was a big panic about the storm, but other than that, was the weather reasonable for your solar output?

As you can see from the graph above, 2013 had been very good for output and earnings with June-August all showing significant increases. My panels were removed for 7 days during September so I wasn't surprised that my output fell that month, but now October has fallen as well.

Before I start to panic and make calls to the guy who removed and re-installed my panels, it would be really helpful if you could leave a comment indicating how your system performed in October.

I'm obviously hoping that it was just a meteorologic blip, but equally I'm slightly paranoid that something isn't performing as efficiently as before.

Any help really appreciated.

Thank you for the comments about your October output.

One thing is crystal clear. October 2013 was a poor month for solar generation, wherever you live...

As my system had the largest % reduction (21%) I'm still concerned, but relieved that I'm not alone in suffering reduced output.

  1. Our October 2013 output was 242.4. October 2012 was 224.6. These readings are from meter and not SMA Sunny Beam readings (.52 of our output gets lost in the journey from our inverter in the loft down to the meter). Installed capacity 3.9 kWh.

When comparing with your own output remember that we are in Norfolk. I heard it mentioned last week that we can expect 11% more sunshine in the East than in the rest of the country.

  2. Hi. I'm on Oxfordshire. We had a very good summer, but Sept and Oct were down. Sept 2012 was 364kwh, Sept 2013 only 265kwh. Oct 2012 was 182, Oct 2013 only 157kwh.

  3. Hello,
We had figures of 423.70 in September 2012 and 325.90 in September 2013. Then we had 216.45 in Oct 2012 and 197.30 in October 2013. So a 23% fall in September and a 9% fall in October. We are in West London with a 3.99kwh system

  4. Hi I'd not noticed the drop as my overall year total for 2013 was up on 2012. I don't normally compare month to month. But here are my figures for a 2.4kwh system in the West Midlands
    Sept 2012 = 224.3kwh & Sept 2013 = 172.6kwh
    Oct 2012 = 153.4kwh & Oct 2013 = 123.3kwh

    1. Thanks Simon. Really useful data. I'm hoping that November will reassure me that the system is still OK.
